  • Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners

A group of food animal veterinarians met on May 10, 1986 and formed the Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners (VAFAP). The objectives of this organization were to promote high quality food animal medicine and surgery and to foster good professional and personal relations among our members.

The VAFAP has tried to identify and communicate with veterinarians of a common interest and assist in providing continuing education opportunities. VAFAP has provided a political voice for Virginia's food animal veterinarians and represents their interests in the public forum.

In 2024, the VAFAP officers voted to merge with the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA), to become a larger, stronger, and united association.

As a VVMA member, you can allocate $50.00 of your annual dues to the Virginia Food Animal Academy Fund! This fund supports veterinary students at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, including the Food Animal Club, as well as supporting events such as the "Hokie Cow Classic Golf Tournament".
